Looking for some great geography games for kids? This year in our homeschool, we are studying US geography as a full-year study on Fridays! We are lucky enough to have out main study built into our Blossom and Root curriculum (this is in Level 5 if you were wondering). In addition to using their curriculum, we also checked out an awesome book series – listed below – and we used our fun Beachside Homeschool US Geography map activities! Through our curriculum, we discovered these two amazing games to compliment any United States Geography study. Thanks Blossom and Root!
(Note: I receive absolute no compensation for posting these games – we just really enjoyed them!)

Guess in 10

First up, we tried out the game “Guess in 10.” For this game, you have two teams. Similar to 20 questions, each team has 10 questions to guess the state on the card! The first team to seven cards wins! The cards are beautifully illustrated and contain information about capitals, rivers, and cardinal directions.
The reason I like this game is that it’s simple to play and easy to take with you while traveling. The box is pretty compact and the game has no setup. Guess in 10 recommends players are 8 and up, and I agree, because players need basic reading skills in order to successfully play the game.
Scrambled States of America

Scrambled States of America embodies a different vibe than the other game. In this game, it’s all about speed! You have 5 cards in front of you, and you are constantly being the first to match your card to a card to a similar card from the draw pile. Although the rules prove to be a little more complicated, if you have an extra 10 miniutes to dedicate, try this game out!
Although the box says age 8+, unless your child already has a strong base of US geography, I would recommend a little older. Another option would be to give a younger child a head start sometimes on the card matching. The game could easily be adapted for younger children.
Books

Looking for those books I mentioned? This series – Blastoff Discovery State Profiles – we LOVE for pulling out basic information and fund facts about each state. I checked the books out at the library, but someday we would like to own the series!
That’s a wrap on our favorite US geography games for kids! To complement these games, take a look at some of our state map activities. Each map has a small paper worksheet version, and a larger map version for the clasroom. Every week, we are adding new state maps to the list of products!
