Join us in preparing cheese balls – a delicious Brazilian recipe for kids. A fun addition to homeschooling is learning about countries all around the world by choosing tasty recipes to make with the kids! My kids love to be in the kitchen, and we really enjoy making recipes (especially desserts) as a family. Even if you don’t homeschool, you can enjoy an experience in creating something delicious with your children.
When we learn about a country, we draw the flag and we watch a short video with fun facts. The flag of Brazil was a little harder to draw than some of the others we have done! The fact video we watched about Brazil is below. Every time we watch one of these videos, I learn something as well!
After watching this brief video, the kids write down some facts about the country in their notebooks. Then, we began the cooking process. Using Tapioca flour in a recipe was a new experience for us, so I was curious how these would turn out. Being gluten-free, I was happy that this recipe didn’t have a need for me to substitute any ingredients. It was gluten-free already!
Below is the list of ingredients for the cheese balls. We tried this recipe, which has got to be one of the easiest recipes to make in the world, because you put all the ingredients in a blender! I’m sure this isn’t quite the authentic way to make cheese balls in Brazil, but it works perfectly for a quick and easy recipes with kids.
Ingredients:
- 1 large egg, room temperature
- 1/3 cup extra virgin olive oil, plus more for greasing the pan
- 2/3 cup milk
- 1 1/2 cups (170 g) tapioca flour
- 1/2 cup (66 g) packed grated or crumbled cheese, your preference
- 1 teaspoon salt (or more to taste)
- Mini muffin tin
The Recipe
This recipe is short and simple. Follow the instructions in the link. You basically put all the ingredients in a blender to get a soupy type of dough that looks like this:

After you mix the dough, the kids can pour it into mini muffin cups! Then you just bake it in the oven and get ready to eat your cheese balls. We typically like to make recipes where the kids get to work more with the dough, so this was a weird change for us to just pop them into the oven! We also prepared a chili to go along with the cheese balls. I think any soup or stew would go well with these. The finished products came out like this:

The muffins were fluffy and delicious. A perfect side dish to chili. So if you are learning about Brazil in your homeschool, or you want to enjoy an easy and tasty recipe, make these cheese balls! We hope you’ll try this Brazilian recipe for kids (and adults!). For more fun recipes, check out our post on Swedish Pretzels.
