“Earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s need, but not every man’s greed.”
-Gandhi
We didn’t have time to put together a full unit on Earth day, but here is a fun snack and game we did to help celebrate! These were just two of our favorites from the week’s activities.
Dirt Cups

Since this coincided with our insect and bug unit, we made dirt cups with worms! The best part was making our our pudding. We made it over the stove top, and the girls enjoyed watching the pudding start to thicken as it cooked. They also had a great time smashing our Oreos to make the “dirt” for the cups.
We used this pudding recipe. I didn’t have whole milk on hand, so I actually used 3 cups of 1% milk and 1 cup of heavy whipping cream. It came out great this way! After we made the pudding, we waited it to cool in the fridge. We smashed a whole package of Oreo cookies by putting them in a a few sandwich bags and rolling with a rolling pin. I think this was my kid’s favorite part!
When the pudding had cooled, we mixed in a bit of cool whip with the pudding in a cup, then we added some extra “dirt” on the top. Topped it off with 3 gummy worms and yum, sugar high!

Earth Day Math Game

Another one of my kids favorites from Earth day was this free printable game from tpt. There are two versions, one with addition and one with multiplication. We played both!
You can print multiple copies and use markers (because we didn’t have counters), or put it in a dry erase sleeve and play with dry erase markers.
The girls and I created our own version of the game too. Instead of ending the game when one tree’s “circle” was completed, we played that if you colored the last hexagon surrounding the tree, that tree was yours! You colored it in, and then we kept playing. Whoever had the most trees at the end won! We did have a hard time rolling 12’s at the very end of the game, so we just called it after a few turns.
